Mattia Perin understands Thiago Motta’s frustration after Juventus’ Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of Empoli but insists there are no ‘motherf*****’ in the Bianconeri dressing room.

The Serie A giants suffered a 5-3 defeat on penalties against strugglers Empoli on Wednesday, seeing the Tuscans qualify for the Coppa Italia semifinals for the first time in history.

Coach Thiago Motta was harsh on himself and the team, saying he was ashamed of the result, performance, and even the players’ attitude.

Motta even said he and the players deserved more boos after the final whistle.

Perin: ‘No Motherf…..’ in Juventus dressing room

“Feeling something like this is understandable. However, we feel just as much sadness for what we’ve done,” Perin said during a post-match press conference on Wednesday via Ilbianconero.com.

“We haven’t been at the level this jersey and club deserve. The boos are absolutely justified. We hope to bring out something more. We are the first to be aware of it: probably, giving 100% isn’t enough to wear this jersey; we need to give 110% or even 120%.”

Juventus have also been eliminated from the Champions League knockout playoff and are eight points below Serie A leaders Inter.

The Bianconeri’s minimum target this season is to qualify for the Champions League. They currently sit fourth in Serie A with a two-point lead over fifth-placed Lazio.

“We absolutely must finish in the top four. Playing in the Champions League next year will be crucial,” continued Perin.

“Hopefully, the elimination in Eindhoven and today’s result will ignite a fire inside us. This is a solid group that works well and has a great attitude. There are no motherf***** here.

“There’s room for growth, and I hope this defeat hurts us enough to spark improvement as soon as possible.”

Juventus’ next game is against Hellas Verona this coming Monday.

Minnesota Vikings make shocking release of popular defender as final roster cut deadline approaches

Cutdown day is upon us for the Minnesota Vikings and the rest of the National Football League, and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah gave us our first big surprise. Unless a trade can be reached, the Vikings will be waiving edge rusher Gabe Murphy. Minnesota Vikings plan to waive EDGE Gabe Murphy This is a shocker for many reasons, but the biggest one is his performance. The Vikings gave Murphy $225k fully guaranteed as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft. He was wowing everyone during training camp last year, but then suffered a knee injury that ended up costing him every preseason game. He was healthy by the end of October and played in just 35 snaps in two games. This preseason, Murphy got off to a tremendous start. He racked up 1.5 sacks in the opener against the Houston Texans and looked like a dominant force on the edge. He had a solid game the next week against the New England Patriots, but that apparently wasn't enough. Without Murphy, the Vikings' edge rusher depth is Tyler Batty, who was last known to have an MRI scheduled for a knee injury he suffered Friday night against the Tennessee Titans, Chaz Chambliss, Bo Richter, and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins able to kick out when needed. Does Adofo-Mensah have something up his sleeve here? It sure seems like it, because moving on from Murphy is a weird move.

How Browns feel about Deshaun Watson amid unsettled quarterback situation

Deshaun Watson has become somewhat of a forgotten figure regarding the Cleveland Browns' unique quarterback situation that could involve the club having starter Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, 2025 third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel and 2025 fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders on the roster for its Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. For an article published on Monday, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer noted that Watson will miss at least the first four games of the 2025 season after he suffered a torn Achilles last October and then tore the Achilles again during his recovery. However, it sounds like the Browns haven't yet completely closed the door on Watson returning to the active roster before Week 18 wraps up. "He’s coming along well in his rehab from his re-torn Achilles repair and could be ready to go later in the season," Cabot wrote about Watson. "Whether or not the Browns will activate him remains to be seen, but they’ve been happy with how he’s attacked his rehab and how he’s helped the other QBs, especially Gabriel and Sanders." Watson has made just 19 regular-season starts with the Browns since he received a fully guaranteed five-year, $230M contract from the club in March 2022. He served an 11-game suspension related to allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions to open his first campaign with Cleveland. His 2023 season ended prematurely because of a shoulder issue. He then lost six of seven starts last season before he went down with the initial Achilles injury. It was suggested earlier this month that Watson could essentially force the Browns to move him to the 53-man roster if he's cleared to play this coming fall. Such a scenario theoretically would result in Cleveland having to part ways with a different signal-caller. While the previously mentioned Sanders is clearly fourth on Cleveland's current depth chart, Cabot wrote that the Browns like the rookie "a lot and will continue to develop him." Cabot added that "the Browns have always planned to keep four quarterbacks and will only pivot if someone makes them an offer they can’t refuse." Pickett presumably would become the odd man out regarding such a potential trade. Still, he first needs to fully recover from the hamstring injury he picked up on July 26 that kept him from playing in any preseason games. Meanwhile, Watson will continue his recovery behind the scenes after Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said earlier this year that Cleveland "took a big swing and miss with Deshaun." The Browns reportedly could escape Watson's deal next offseason.

Zachary Yager, Veteran NASCAR Pit Crew Member, Dies Aged 35

Zachary Yager, who had served as an over-the-wall pit crew member in the NASCAR National Series ranks since the 2014 season, has died at the age of 35. TobyChristie.com had the initial report of Yager's death. Yager, a New York native, had pit crew stints with Richard Childress Racing, Team Penske, RFK Racing, and JTG Daugherty Racing (now known as HYAK Motorsports), where he won the 2023 Daytona 500, from 2014 to 2024. Ahead of the 2025 season, Yager moved to Elite Race Services, a Mooresville, NC-based company that specializes in assembling teams of pit crews for NASCAR National Series race teams. This season, Yager had been serving as the Jack Man for the No. 39 RSS Racing team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as well as the No. 88 ThorSport Racing team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The loss of Yager was absolutely unexpected for Elite Race Services, which is grieving the loss of one of its own, while issuing its deepest sympathy to Yager's family. “Obviously, nobody saw this coming and we’re in total disbelief,” Cory DeMarco, owner of Elite Race Services said in a statement given to TobyChristie.com. “All of the guys send our thoughts and prayers out to his dad and family, right now.” ThorSport Racing, likewise, expressed grief over the sudden and unexpected loss of Yager. “We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of our friend and teammate, Zachary Yager,” said ThorSport Racing in a statement. “He was an important part of our family, and our hearts are with his loved ones and community as we grieve this loss together.” While he was serving as a Jack Man this season, Yager was well-known as a well-rounded pit crew member, who could perform at nearly every position on an over-the-wall pit crew. Yager previously served as a Tire Carrier and Fueler in addition to the Jack Man role. No details surrounding Yager's death have been released, but the veteran pit crew member had been missing since Monday, August 18, according to various social media posts from members of Yager's family.

Mets receive good news on injured catcher Francisco Alvarez

New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez has resumed swinging a bat and is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, writes MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. It’d be a remarkably quick return for the 23-year-old, who suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb earlier this month. Manager Carlos Mendoza expressed shock when he was sent video of Alvarez already swinging a bat this past Sunday. “When I was looking at it, I was like, ’There’s no way this guy is swinging the bat,'” said Mendoza. Alvarez will require surgery after the season, but he’ll gut out the injury to the extent that he’s able to tolerate the pain it causes. DiComo notes that the Mets would prefer to use him behind the plate rather than at designated hitter, where Starling Marte has been swinging a blistering hot bat for the past few weeks, but the team won’t rule out the possibility of Alvarez mixing in at DH. The mere notion of Alvarez returning in short order seemed outlandish at the time of his IL placement and the revelation that he’d require eventual surgery. However, given the production he’d turned in prior to suffering that injury on a slide into second base, it’s not a surprise that the Mets are looking at an aggressive timetable. Alvarez struggled enough early this season to find himself demoted to Triple-A in late June, but he returned a month later and exploded with a .323/.408/.645 batting line in 71 plate appearances before incurring his ill-timed injury. Certainly, it’d be a lot to expect Alvarez to replicate or even approximate that level of play. That said, there’s a fairly low bar to clear behind the plate — at least from an offensive standpoint. Luis Torrens is hitting just .221/.282/.324 in 241 plate appearances this season, while rookie Hayden Senger has slashed .172/.210/.190 in his first 63 big league plate appearances. A quick turnaround for Alvarez isn’t the only aggressive move being pondered by the Mets, who are also reportedly mulling a promotion for touted pitching prospect Jonah Tong. The 2022 seventh-rounder could feasibly join fellow rookie and top pitching prospect Nolan McLean in the rotation down the stretch. The Mets have suffered multiple rotation injuries to their starting staff (Frankie Montas, Griffin Canning, Tylor Megill) and are scrambling to hold onto a wild-card spot in the National League. New York is 15-19 since the All-Star break and just 8-14 in August. The Mets entered the All-Star break in possession of the second wild-card spot and just a half-game behind the Phillies in the NL East. They’re now six games behind Philadelphia in the division and 3.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the second wild-card spot. The Mets are still 2.5 games up on the Cincinnati Reds for that final spot, but New York has the slightly tougher schedule the rest of the way — including a pivotal three-game set in Cincinnati from Sept. 5-7. The Mets have just a .431 winning percentage on the road, whereas the Reds have won at a .554 clip at home.
