Many Liverpool supporters were elated when the club announced the first signing of the year.

Liverpool announced that they had reached an agreement with Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig for the transfer of French centre back Ibrahima Konate.

The young defender joined the Reds in a transfer rumoured to be worth approximately £36 million in May.

Since joining, the defender and club alike have seen an outpouring of praise for the deal.

One of those who has come out to support the transfer was no other than former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch.

The striker played 134 times for Liverpool, scoring 42 times and adding 17 assists.

Crouch, who was featured in our list of players who left Liverpool Football Club too soon, has been a club favourite so his words carry weight behind them.

Peter Crouch Praises Konate

When talking about Ibrahima Konate, the tall and lanky striker said, "Ibrahima Konate is a top signing for Liverpool."

"I like him as a defender and Liverpool needed someone, let’s be honest. Joe Gomez’s and Joel Matip’s injury records have not been good at all."

"Plus, after Virgil van Dijk’s long injury absence, we don’t know what kind of player he’s going to return as. It might take Virgil some time to come back to his best, and Liverpool need someone who’s ready now.”

“They needed more experience at the back. Konate isn’t a veteran by any means but has played in plenty of big games."

If Crouch is even remotely correct, Konate is going to be a great signing for Liverpool.
