Longtime Maple Leafs Defenseman in Serious Contract Dispute With His New Team

The longtime former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins is in a serious contract dispute with his new team, the Buffalo Sabres. Nobody appears happy to stay with the Buffalo Sabres organization. Most of the talented players on the team were included in trade or free agency rumors, and now, Timmins doesn't appear too excited to sign with the team. Indeed, the Restricted Free Agent, who was traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Sabres earlier this offseason for Connor Clifton and a second-round pick, isn't close to reaching a deal in Buffalo. With arbitration hearings set to take place over the coming days, Timmins and the Sabres are likely to meet for that reason soon. Unless a deal is reached before then, the hearing will take place on August 2nd. The Ontario native is coming off a rocky season, where he played 51 games for the Leafs and 17 more in Pittsburgh after being traded. In those 68 games, the 26-year-old defenseman tallied 15 points, including three goals. After seeing three players around the NHL reach deals before their hearing date, some fans hoped to see the Sabres and Timmins sign a contract soon, but multiple reports confirmed that there hasn't been any 'traction' between both camps. As of now, five more players are scheduled to have salary hearings. Here's the full list, per PuckPedia: Arvid Soderblom (Chicago Blackhawks) - July 28 Maksim Tsyplakov (New York Islanders) - July 29 Dylan Samberg (Winnipeg Jets) - July 30 Conor Timmins (Buffalo Sabres) - August 2 Nicholas Robertson (Toronto Maple Leafs) - August 3 Jayden Struble (Montreal Canadiens) - August 3 It'll be interesting to see what kind of contract Timmins would get in a hearing, or if a deal will be reached before the date. With the Sabres' reputation, it's not surprising to see that he appears reluctant to sign in Buffalo. Hopefully for their fans, massive changes will be done to the team to make sure they can attract top talent and convince them to stay with the team.

Tigers Reportedly Trying to Finalize Eugenio Suárez Trade Before Diamondbacks Leave

The Detroit Tigers may not be out of it just yet in the pursuit of the top available player at this week's MLB trade deadline. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is sought after by just about every contender due to the incredible season he's had so far. However, many called into question how much of a fit he is for the Tigers. On paper, Suárez makes the lineup more dangerous, but many have pointed out that his presence might limit what the Tigers do best in terms of creating mismatches and having chess pieces to move around the diamond. More News: Tigers Make Troy Melton Permanent Part of MLB Rotation With Surprising Move The fact he's a rental and still may cost some premium prospect capital to acquire only strengthens the case that Detroit could opt to stay away. A new report on Monday though contradicts all that, though. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported the Tigers are still very much a suitor for Suárez and want to get a deal done with the Diamondbacks before the slugger leaves town following this early-week series between the two sides. Through 104 games headed into the matchup with Detroit, Suárez is slashing .247/.319/.579 with 36 home runs and a big league-leading 87 RBI, already collecting a bWAR of 3.4. More News: Tigers Can Only Consider Trading Top Prospects at Deadline For These Four Stars There is no question that being able to land him would provide a massive boost to a Tigers offense that has been struggling immensely during the current cold streak these last couple of weeks. Suárez would instantly come in and add a new dynamic of power to the lineup while stabilizing what has been a revolving door at the hot corner all season long. How serious of an offer they are willing to make in order to make that happen remains to be seen. More News: Tigers Announce Surprising Move After Activating Kerry Carpenter from IL Detroit is positioned to win not just now, but in the future, so trading young assets for a rental would be a bold move indicating their belief in being a championship contender this year. If Nightengale is correct and the Tigers are trying to finalize a Suárez deal before he leaves the city of Detroit, look for the noise to heat up over the coming days. The spotlight on the 34-year-old this week is going to be one of the brightest of his Major League career. For more Tigers news, head over to Tigers On SI.

Yankees Could Trade for Aaron Judge Replacement

Yankees Could Trade for Aaron Judge Replacement

With Aaron Judge on the mend due to an elbow injury, the New York Yankees have begun surveying the trade market for outfield help. Though the club has considerable depth at the position, that hasn't stopped them from looking for outside reinforcements. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, two players in particular New York has shown interest in are Harrison Bader of the Minnesota Twins and Austin Slater of the Chicago White Sox. Both Bader and Slater are rentals, which is notable because of the fact that Trent Grisham falls under that same umbrella while Cody Bellinger is likely to decline his player option for the 2026 campaign. Acquiring an outfielder with team control beyond this season who could start alongside Jasson Dominguez and Aaron Judge moving forward would make sense, but that wouldn't be the case with either Bader or Slater. The Yankees have reportedly been pursuing a right-handed bat beyond Amed Rosario, whom they acquired from the Washington Nationals over the weekend, and with some question marks surrouding Judge's defensive availability when he returns from the IL, Bader and Slater are still logical targets for the club despite their contract statuses. Bader is plenty familiar with the Yankees, as he was dealt to the team from the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2022 deadline in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery. He slashed .237/.274/.353 in 98 regular season games through 2023 before going on to spend time with the Twins, New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds. The 31-year-old has primarily played left field for Minnesota this season, though a majority of his big league experience has come in center field. The former Gold Glover has long profiled as one of baseball's best defenders in the outfield, and he's maintained that reputation in 2025 with five Outs Above Average (OAA). Slater has picked up expansive experience at all three outfield spots, though he's largely stuck in the corners for Chicago this season. The 32-year-old is a solid defender himself, logging one OAA, while batting .241/.307/.440 with five home runs in 128 plate appearances. His batted ball data suggests that he's due to break out, however, evidenced by an expected batting average of .280, expected slugging percentage of .537 and barrel rate of 14.6 percent, per Baseball Savant. The Yankees can't go wrong with either Bader or Slater, though it remains to be seen if they'll actually decide to add an outfielder over the next few days before the July 31 deadline. Green Bay Packers: 2x Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins Reveals True Feelings on Position Change, Contract Rumors

One of the biggest stories surrounding the Green Bay Packers this offseason has been the position change, and following absences, of two-time Pro Bowl left guard Elgton Jenkins. Early in the spring, it was quite clear that Green Bay had no intention of bringing back 2021 second round pick Josh Myers, who had been the Packers’ starting center since he was drafted. He ended up signing a one-year prove-it deal with the New York Jets. With Myers no longer in the fold, many wondered who the Packers would have play center. Zach Tom has long mentioned as a potential option there, as has second-year lineman Jacob Monk. But, to the shock of many, Green Bay opted to move Jenkins, who (as mentioned) is a two-time Pro Bowl left guard, to the position. They also signed Aaron Banks to a four-year $77 million contract to fill the hole left at left guard with Jenkins moving to center. It Was Reported that Green Bay Packers Star Elgton Jenkins Was Holding Out for a Revised Contract After the Packers announced that Jenkins was going to be moving to center while Banks would be entrenched at left guard, there were a series of reports that came out the two-time Pro Bowler was not happy. It was not that he minded the position switch. After all, he played center in college and filled in at the position in 2021 when Myers was out with an injury. Instead, these reports stated that Jenkins was concerned that the position switch would affect his earning capabilities in the NFL after his contract in Green Bay comes to an end. Centers do not make as much money as guards, and it was believed that Jenkins wanted some extra guarantees from the Packers in exchange for making the switch. And when Jenkins did not report to Green Bay for OTA’s and mandatory mini camp, fans began to worry that they had a real contract holdout on their hands. This was assumed to be the case, too, when Jenkins started training camp on the non-football injury list. Green Bay Packers Center Elgton Jenkins Shoots Down Contract Rumors As it turns out, though, none of these reports and rumors were true. Jenkins returned to practice on Tuesday, participating in individual drills only as he ramps up his activity. He had injured his back lifting weights during the offseason, which is why he started camp on the NFI. As for OTA’s, well, he had some family matters to attend to: As Ryan Wood notes, Jenkins spoke the Packers twice this offseason. The first time when they asked him about switching positions, and the second when he told them he would. What is more, per Wood, Jenkins has been planning a move to center for some time now: This is great news for Green Bay, who will be relying on Jenkins as their longest-tenured lineman, again, to lead the group tasked with protecting Jordan Love and opening holes for the run game.
