Tottenham Hotspur were dealt an injury blow before the international break. Pedro Porro suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa, which led to the right-back withdrawing himself from the Spanish squad for the UEFA Nations League games.
If Porro’s injury wasn’t enough, Roberto De Zerbi has been sweating over the fitness of Jan Paul van Hecke. The central defender left the Netherlands camp earlier this week after suffering an injury in the 2-1 win over Serbia. The Dutchman’s availability for the trip to Manchester United on October 10 remains unknown.
Amid the frustrating news of Van Hecke’s injury, the supporters have been given something to smile about by his compatriot.
Xavi Simons suffered an ACL injury during Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Wolves back in April, which was just Roberto De Zerbi’s third game in charge of the club. At the time, it appeared that the midfielder’s injury may have come as a slap on the wrist for the Lilywhites in their hopes of retaining their top-flight status, but De Zerbi’s forces did manage to escape relegation on the final day of the season at the expense of West Ham.
It was initially expected that the 23-year-old would be sidelined until the start of 2027. However, it appears that he has made some quick progress. Recently, Xavi Simons posted images of travelling to the United States to step up his rehabilitation. During his rehabilitation tour in the United States, he trained at the facilities of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and the NHL’s Boston Bruins.
Now, in a post on his official X account, Simons has shared an image where he is seen doing some drills on the pitch. The Netherlands international is putting himself through the paces at the Liquid I.V. Performance Centre in the United States. Although the creative midfielder was back on the grass, doing various drills and exercises to test the range of movement in his knees, he was not spotted doing any ball work.
As it stands, it remains unclear when exactly Simons will return to action, but he certainly seems to have made good progress on the road to a full recovery from an ACL rupture.

This will come as a much-needed boost for Roberto De Zerbi, who’s under pressure to drag Tottenham out of the relegation zone after the international break. He suffered a serious knee injury in April, and by the looks of it, the Dutch star seems to be ahead of schedule compared to Wilson Odobert, who suffered the same injury in March.
This will come as a big lift for De Zerbi and the supporters, who are still waiting for their first win of the Premier League campaign.
