Fiorentina striker Roberto Piccoli has earned his first Italy call-up, replacing the injured Mattia Zaccagni, the FIGC has confirmed.
Lazio winger Zaccagni won’t take part in Italy games against Estonia and Israel during the international break in October because of an adductor injury. The Biancocelesti star has been replaced by Fiorentina centre-forward Piccoli.
The FIGC confirmed the change in the Azzurri squad on Saturday morning, just a few hours after Lazio had announced Zaccagni’s injury and omission from today’s squad for a match against Torino.
Zaccagni will undergo further medical tests on Monday, Lazio have said.
Zaccagni started for Italy in Gattuso’s first game in charge against Estonia in September, but wasn’t even on the bench for the following match against Israel.
Piccoli has made six appearances across all competitions with Fiorentina this season, scoring two goals.
The product of the Atalanta academy joined the Tuscans in a €25m deal from Cagliari in the 2025 summer transfer window.
The other two Italy debutants this month are Piccoli’s Fiorentina teammate, Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, and Bologna winger Nicolò Cambiaghi.
