AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is studying some tactical alternatives to keep his side flexible for the right situations, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how Pioli is of the belief that formations are important, but only to a certain point, because it is more the players that are put on the field that are crucial in deciding how the team play.

The first solution that Pioli is considering as per the newspaper is the idea of a three-man defence Romagnoli, Tomori and Kjaer simultaneously on the pitch and Theo Hernandez as a wing-back, allowing him to advance to the midfielders’ line, as we have seen him do with France.

Then, the other tactical adjustment he is considering is player Bennacer, Kessie and Tonali together in a 4-3-1-2 that would give space to all three, with Brahim Diaz who could act in his natural role as attacking midfielder behind either Ibrahimovic and Giroud together, but also Leao or Rebic.
