Reports claim that Italy legend Andrea Pirlo blocked his son’s bank account in 2022 after discovering he had accumulated a €30,000 debt with illegal online betting.
Former Juventus and Milan midfielder Pirlo was forced to block his son’s bank account in 2022 after realising that he had accumulated a €30,000 debt with illegal online betting.
As reported by Corriere della Sera, Fiorentina midfielder Nicolò Fagioli informed Pietro Marinoni about the issues between Pirlo, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, and his son Nicolò, who wasn’t even 18 at that time.
Marinoni is a Serie D referee who is suspected of having organised the illegal gambling activity, even initiating Sandro Tonali to betting on illicit platforms.
In a WhatsApp chat from June 7, 2022, Fagioli described Pirlo’s son to Marinoni as “one of us” but added: “He went into debit recovery, but his father found out and blocked his bank account until he’s 18. Having a €30,000 debt at 17 is something else.”
It is believed that Pirlo’s son, Nicolò, gambled on the same illegal platforms used by Fagioli, Tonali, and other football players in a new investigation into illicit online betting.
Tonali and Fagioli have already been banned and do not risk another punishment. Their collaboration with authorities contributed to the beginning of a new investigation.
There’s no evidence that any of the 12 current and former Serie A players involved in the new investigation ever gambled on football games.
