Manchester United could well revive their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo in January after learning of the forward’s release clause.

While £65 million isn’t cheap by any means, it’s certainly a modest price tag for such a prolific player in today’s market, and that’s all it would take to prise Semenyo from the Vitality Stadium in two months’ time.

His suitors will have until a certain date to activate the clause, after which it will no longer be available until the summer due to Bournemouth’s need to sign a replacement.

According to a fresh report from MailSport’s Nathan Salt, he is ‘one to watch’ for United heading into the January window.

An arrival like the Cherries starlet at Old Trafford could work wonders for Ruben Amorim, who’s poised to be without Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo when AFCON gets underway in the winter, whereas Semenyo’s Ghana missed out on qualifying this time around – the first time they’ve failed to do so since 2004.

Back in the summer, talks were held with the 25-year-old over a potential move, with Manchester Evening News claiming that United’s pursuit went as far as Amorim holding a one-on-one meeting with the coveted star.

Neither United nor Tottenham Hotspur’s proposals were deemed acceptable to Semenyo, though, as he opted to sign a five-year deal with Bournemouth to keep him tied to the club until 2030.

Now, however, it seems as though he only did so to ensure he’d be able to complete a more seamless exit when the time felt right to leave.

Semenyo has returned a hugely impressive six goals and three assists in his opening 11 Premier League appearances this term, making it no surprise he’s now caught the eyes of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola even singled out the Ghanaian for praise ahead of his side’s clash with the in-form Cherries, hailing him as ‘extraordinary’.
