Plymouth Argyle confirm appointment of Wayne Rooney as Head Coach
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Wayne Rooney is back in management as Plymouth Argyle’s Head Coach, the club have announced today.

It comes over four months on from when the Manchester United legend was sacked by Birmingham City following a dismal run of results, which saw his tenure brought to an abrupt end after just 15 matches. Nine of those were losses.

The Blues were then relegated to League One after they failed to oversee a turnaround in form throughout the remainder of the campaign.

Now, Rooney will return to the Championship and take charge of Argyle from the 2024/2025 term, giving the ex-striker a full summer and pre-season to implement his style of play and have a say in transfer dealings.

It’s his fourth job in management, having started with Derby County before taking to the United States and testing his resolve in Major League Soccer with DC United. He left America after 15 months to return to England.

All the best to the former Red in his new venture.
