Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega may have to undergo surgery after suffering an injury in the first half of the win over Monza.

The 24-year-old was forced off the pitch in the 24th minute of the Rossoneri’s 3-0 victory over the Biancorossi on Sunday afternoon, being replaced by teenage defender Jan-Carlo Simic.

Milan have dealt with a long list of muscle injuries this season, losing players like Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw, Rafael Leao and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at various points over the last few months. Some fans have pointed the finger of blame at coach Stefano Pioli and the club’s medical staff.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Pobega suffered damage to the tendons of his rectus femoris muscle in his left leg, a concerning injury that’ll be the focus of further tests next week. There’s a risk that he’ll have to undergo an operation, which would keep him sidelined for the coming weeks.

Noah Okafor was forced off the pitch just 13 minutes after coming on in the win over Monza, having suffered a lesion to his semimembranosus muscle. He will also undergo further tests next week.

Finally, tests confirmed that Marco Sportiello and Marco Pellegrino recovered from their respective injuries, allowing them to start returning to Pioli’s squad.
