Paris Saint-Germain is set to take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 next month. This first leg of this upcoming tie may be one that PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino already has his sights set on.

Following PSG’s 1-1 draw result with Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 play (via Prime Video Sport France), Pochettino was asked whether this fixture was an important test for his side ahead of next month’s clash with the La Liga giants. The Argentine manager kept it simple with his take.

“You never know the conditions you will have in a month,” Pochettino said. “We are in a crazy period. The most important thing is to adapt each day . But it’s not just for us but for all the teams.”

PSG was without a multitude of key talents for the fixture against Lyon, including both Lionel Messi (COVID-19 recovery) and Angel Di Maria (COVID-19 isolation). While PSG had its way in possession and created key chances over the match, it still was not able to prevail in the end.

Multiple more key matchups now await PSG ahead of the crucial first leg encounter with Real Madrid.
