AC Milan Women’s winning streak came to an end away at Pomigliano on Wednesday after throwing away a 2-0 lead.

Milan started the game in a dominant but wasteful fashion, but the breakthrough still came nice and early. A corner was floated into the box in the fifth minute and it found Mesjasz around nine yards from goal. She produced a fine looping header that evaded everyone in the box and dropped into the bottom corner.

There were chances for the likes of Chante Dompig and Evelyn Ijeh to put Milan in a position of real control during the first half but they were not taken, meaning Pomigliano could maintain belief that there was something in the game for them.

As the second half began, Mesjasz showed her prowess in the air once again as she powered another corner into the back of the net to get her second and put Milan 2-0 up.

Milan were cruising at this stage but in the 73rd minute, Marianela Szymanowski produced a smart finish in the box to get Pomigliano back into the contest.

Staggeringly, Milan managed to throw the lead away when Iris Rabot produced a remarkable long-range effort to make it 2-2 in the 88th minute, sparking wild celebrations.

Milan remain at the top of the Poule Salvezza, whilst Pomigliano move one point closer to Napoli in the relegation playoff spot.
