Ruben Amorim has officially become the sixth permanent manager of Manchester United to come and go since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Portuguese manager was brought in after his success at Sporting CP, having transformed the landscape of the club and win the Liga Portugal after 19 years.

However, his time at Old Trafford wasn’t anywhere near as successful as he leaves with a 36% win rate, one of the lowest in the post-Ferguson era.

Now, with the Portuguese manager’s dismissal, reports in his home country are surfacing, covering the end of his 14-month stint at Old Trafford.

Firstly O Jogo detail how the United appointment went from “dream to nightmare” for Ruben Amorim, having the worst approval rating of manager since Ferguson.

Explaining his poor results, the Portuguese outlet commented: “Of the meager 24 wins, 15 came in Premier League matches, compared to 19 losses and 13 draws.”

It continued: “Because of all this, the longest winning streak occurred at the beginning of 2025 and lasted only three consecutive games – two in the Europa League against Rangers and FCSB of Romania, and one in the Premier League against Fulham.

“The average of 1.23 points per game is, moreover, the lowest of all Red Devils managers in the Premier League era, followed by Ralf Rangnick.”

Adding to this, A Bola commented: “These numbers show the inconsistency that ended up marking the Portuguese coach’s era at Old Trafford. For every strength the team showed, there was another negative aspect that stood out.”

The Portuguese publication further explained the inconsistencies, referencing recent results, saying: “However, so far we see the duality of results: after winning the duel against a difficult team like Newcastle, they failed to do the same against two teams fighting to avoid relegation, Wolverhampton and Leeds (1-1).”

It’s no surprise that the reports are critical of Amorim, given that under his reign, United failed to string together a series of four wins, with their longest streak achieving three wins.
