Premier League costs Manchester United millions of pounds

Manchester United are continuing to feel the financial impact of scheduling decisions this season.

Internal frustrations are growing over the number of evening fixtures they have been handed.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the club have been hit hard by repeated Monday night kick-offs, which are believed to cost up to £1 million per game.

The issue has emerged as a significant off-field concern despite improvements on the pitch under interim boss Michael Carrick.

United have been selected for Monday night matches six times this season.

That figure exceeds guidelines suggested by supporter groups and highlights the Premier League’s reliance on the club’s global appeal for television audiences.

However, those fixtures come at a cost.

The report outlines how Monday games disrupt key revenue streams.

Stadium tours are regularly cancelled or reduced.

Matchday spending is also affected, particularly with reduced attendance in hospitality and concessions compared to weekend fixtures.

While the club are not said to be losing money outright, there is a clear commercial dip linked to these unsociable time slots.

This financial strain adds to a broader backdrop.

Manchester United finished 15th last season and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

That meant they would be without European football this campaign.

That absence has already limited income streams tied to continental competition.

There have also been additional financial commitments.

United are already set to pay a further €4 million in performance-related bonuses for summer signing Benjamin Sesko.

Those payments are linked to both individual progress and the club’s push towards Champions League qualification.

Supporters have also been impacted.

Travelling to late weekday fixtures has proven difficult, particularly for fans coming from outside Manchester.

Carrick himself has acknowledged the challenge, highlighting the strain placed on supporters throughout a congested and irregular schedule.

With a return to European football expected next season, the Red Devils will hope for a more balanced fixture list moving forward.
