We’re back for another round of Premier League predictions. We’ll be taking on another AI service this week – Google Gemini has stepped up to the plate.
As West Ham United prepare to take on Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur get ready for a crucial game against Leeds United, who will be this week’s winners and losers?
As always in our Premier League predictions, it is five points for a correct result and ten points for a correct score.
Essential Football: Liverpool faultered at the weekend against Manchester United, but their issues are far eclipsed by the cataclysm currently taking place at Chelsea.
The Blues have lost their last six Premier League games – we don’t see them dispelling their hoodoo against Liverpool. They’ll look better than they did against Nottingham Forest, but that isn’t saying much.
EF’s prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Chelsea
Google Gemini: Chelsea have struggled lately, losing six straight. Expect Anfield to be a fortress.
GG’s prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea
Essential Football: Brighton are a hard team to predict. They have been a strong run, but were inexplicably beaten by out-of-form Newcastle United last weekend.
Nevertheless, already-relegated Wolves shouldn’t pose much of a threat. We’re expecting the Seagulls to win this, even if they make hard work of it.
EF’s prediction: Brighton 2-1 Wolves
Google Gemini: Wolves are already relegated and have struggled for goals away from home.
GG’s prediction: Brighton 2-0 Wolves
Essential Football: Fulham were desperately lacklustre in their last game, when they were penned in and beaten 3-0 by Arsenal. They’re much better at home than they are away, but we’re still excepting Bournemouth to beat them.
This season has been a phenomenal one for the Cherries. They haven’t lost in the Premier League since the beginning of January – Craven Cottage has been a difficult place to visit this season, but Andoni Iraola’s men should have enough to continue their fantastic run.
EF’s prediction: Fulham 1-2 Bournemouth
Google Gemini: Bournemouth are on a 15-game unbeaten run and frequently draw at Craven Cottage.
GG’s prediction: Fulham 1-1 Bournemouth
Essential Football: Like Craven Cottage, the Stadium of Light has also been a bit of a fortress this season – but in recent weeks, the gates seem to have been breached.
After suffering a 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest, teams no longer fear the trip up to Wearside. Manchester United are a stronger outfit than Forest are – as such, it stands to reason that they’ll have too much for Sunderland to handle.
EF’s prediction: Sunderland 0-2 Manchester United
Google Gemini: United are pushing for a top-three finish and has won three in a row.
GG’s prediction: Sunderland 1-2 Manchester United
Essential Football: Manchester City are desperate for a win, following their 3-3 draw against Everton – if they fail to pick up three points here, the title race is over.
Nevertheless, we don’t think this one is cut and dry. City are likely to win, but Brentford will do everything they can to make it difficult for Pep Guardiola’s men.
EF’s prediction: Manchester City 3-2 Brentford
Google Gemini: City are relentless in the title chase; expect high goals at the Etihad.
GG’s prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Brentford
Essential Football: Aston Villa spared their blushes on Thursday evening, blowing Nottingham Forest away to secure their spot in the Europa League final. Regardless, they won’t have this sort of energy for Burnley, who were relegated weeks ago.
We’re expecting an uneventful game to transpire here. Burnley won’t present much of a threat, while Villa will be happy to coast by and save their legs for a more important game in the future.
EF’s prediction: Burnley 0-1 Aston Villa
Google Gemini: Burnley are relegated and struggling, while Villa are chasing a Champions League spot.
GG’s prediction: Burnley 0-3 Aston Villa
Essential Football: Nothing is riding on this game other than professional pride. Neither have a chance of reaching the European spots – likewise, neither can be relegated outside of freak circumstances.
Furthermore, both Crystal Palace and Everton have been somewhat low-scoring this season – a goalless draw appears to be the most likely outcome.
EF’s prediction: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton
Google Gemini: A classic mid-table clash that could easily go either way; both sides are safe.
GG’s prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Everton
Essential Football: After a dismal run of form, Newcastle’s win over Brighton last weekend was just what the doctor ordered. They needed a win to put an end to their downward spiral – now, they can get back to work.
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, will have had the wind taken out of their sails after a crushing 4-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the Europa League semi-finals. Newcastle, having benefitted from a midweek rest, should be able to compound Forest’s woes at the City Ground.
EF’s prediction: Nottingham Forest 0-2 Newcastle United
Google Gemini: Forest have been strong at the City Ground, but Newcastle are always a threat to score.
GG’s prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Newcastle United
Essential Football: West Ham’s most recent loss against Brentford put the Hammers in dire straits. They are now back in the relegation zone, following Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa – worse still, they’ll be playing Arsenal next.
Of course, the Irons will put up a fight, but will it be enough? We don’t think so. Arsenal simply have far too much quality and physicality to be seriously challenged by West Ham.
EF’s prediction: West Ham 0-2 Arsenal
Google Gemini: The “Match of the Weekend.” Arsenal need the win for the title; West Ham are fighting for survival.
GG’s prediction: West Ham 1-4 Arsenal
Essential Football: This is an interesting game to forecast. Leeds United are on a good run, having effectively saved themselves from relegation, but Tottenham have also begun to find form at the end of the season.
We think a draw seems like the most likely outcome here. Both sides are performing well at the moment, but there are still issues that need ironing out – whatever the case, we’re expecting this to be an entertaining outing.
EF’s prediction: Leeds United 2-2 Tottenham
Google Gemini: purs are coming off a big away win at Villa Park and have a 51.8% win probability. Leeds, while improved under their current setup, often struggle to contain Spurs’ pace on the break.
GG’s prediction: Leeds United 1-2 Tottenham
