Action in the Premier League is coming thick and fast at the moment. As such, we’re preparing for another round of predictions, as we take a look at the upcoming set of midweek fixtures.
This week, we’ll be doing things a bit differently. Instead of taking on another person, we’ll come head-to-head with Grok AI.
Grok is the AI service used exclusively on X (formerly Twitter). It gave its predicted scorelines, as well as a ‘brief reasoning’ into its choices – how will we fare against the power of Artificial Intelligence?
Essential Football: Neither of these two teams are particularly strong at the back – as such, you can expect plenty of goals in this one. Bournemouth are an excellent attacking side, but Brentford should be able to take advantage of their defensive frailties.
Brentford themselves have issues in defence – they conceded three goals last time out against a deeply lacklustre Burnley outfit. They can sometimes look lost when they’re not on the front foot – this won’t aid them against Andoni Iraola’s free-flowing play.
EF’s Prediction: Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford
Grok: Bournemouth are unbeaten in eight but have drawn too many recently; Brentford’s three straight away wins and attacking character give them the edge in a close battle.
Grok’s prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Brentford
Essential Football: David Moyes’ Everton aren’t spectacular, but they most certainly are very solid. Against a Burnley team that cannot stop leaking goals, they should be able to grind out a result.
The Toffees don’t play risky football – it’ll make for a dull game, but it should be enough to shut out the Clarets. Their most recent defeat against Brentford was a real hammer blow – it probably knocked whatever fight they had left out of them.
EF’s Prediction: Everton 1-0 Burnley
Grok: Everton’s recent thrilling win boosts their European push, while Burnley have only two away victories all season and remain relegation favorites.
Grok’s prediction: Everton 2-1 Burnley
Essential Football: Leeds United and Sunderland have both overperformed in the Premier League this season, with many audiences tipping them for relegation. Sunderland have been the better team over the course of the season, but that doesn’t automatically make them favourites in this one.
Leeds have a strong goalscoring record in comparison to their place in the table – Sunderland, meanwhile, have won just one of their last six games. A score draw seems like the most likely outcome – Leeds’ form is very similar to the Black Cats’.
EF’s Prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Sunderland
Grok: Leeds have been hard to beat lately with strong home form (22 of 31 points at Elland Road), facing a Sunderland side winless in four and fading mid-table.
Grok’s prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Sunderland
Essential Football: Wolves might be dead and buried, but they want to go down swinging. It’ll be an almighty upset if they manage to beat Liverpool – we don’t think they will, but there is every chance that they’ll run Arne Slot’s men close.
Admist an atmosphere of distant optimism from the Wolves supporters, Liverpool should be able to take home three points here. They were rampant in their last game, but wounded Wolves will likely provide a sterner challenge.
EF’s Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Liverpool
Grok: Wolves’ low goal tally (just 20 in 28 games) meets Liverpool’s hot streak of four wins in five, pushing for top-four; expect a comfortable away victory despite Wolves’ recent upset.
Grok’s prediction: Wolves 1-3 Liverpool
Essential Football: Aston Villa had a poor showing last time out, losing at Wolves – Chelsea weren’t much better, as they slumped to defeat at Arsenal. In that game, Pedro Neto also recieved a red card.
Nonetheless, Chelsea at least look like they can score goals at the moment – currently, Unai Emery’s men look totally impotent.
EF’s Prediction: Aston Villa 1-3 Chelsea
Grok: Villa’s form dip due to injuries contrasts with Chelsea’s scoring run (10 goals in five), though defensive issues could make it tight in this top-four chase.
Grok’s prediction: Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea
Essential Football: Let’s be honest – there is only going to be one winner here. Arsenal are showing few signs of fatigue during their title charge, while Brighton have struggled as of late.
The Seagulls have shown signs of steadying the ship, winning two Premier League games in a row, but the Gunners will surely prove too much for them.
EF’s Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Arsenal
Grok: Brighton’s back-to-back wins are positive, but Arsenal’s five-point lead at the top and consistent results make them favorites to dominate.
Grok’s prediction: Brighton 0-3 Arsenal
Essential Football: Fulham were impressive last time out, schooling Spurs in a 2-1 win – Marco Silva’s men look poised for a late European charge at the tail end of the season.
On the other hand, West Ham’s push for survival has seemingly hit the rocks. With just two points from their last three games, their frail defence has been their downfall – expect much of the same at Craven Cottage.
EF’s Prediction: Fulham 3-1 West Ham United
Grok: Fulham’s unbeaten home run (three wins in four) faces a West Ham side hovering above relegation with more points away but recent heavy defeats.
Grok’s prediction: Fulham 2-1 West Ham
Essential Football: Another clear-cut prediction – Vitor Peirera has done little to reverse Nottingham Forest’s fortunes since he replaced the outgoing Sean Dyche at the City Ground.
Manchester City know that they need a win to keep the pressure on Arsenal – as such, a big win seems like the most obvious result here.
EF’s Prediction: Manchester City 4-0 Nottingham Forest
Grok: City’s four-game win streak and title pressure overwhelm Forest, who are winless in five and haven’t scored here since promotion.
Grok’s prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Nottingham Forest
Essential Football: Newcastle United are in a bit of a mess as things stand. Eddie Howe has inexplicably decided to experiment with his starting XI at the business end of the season – unsurprisingly, this has led the Magpies to five losses in their last six games.
Elsewhere, Michael Carrick has taken Manchester United back to basics. His appointment has been a godsend – they won’t give Newcastle much of a sniff in this one.
EF’s Prediction: Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester United
Grok: Newcastle’s poor home form (three straight losses) meets United’s unbeaten run under Carrick, with six wins in seven closing the gap on the leaders.
Grok’s prediction: Newcastle United 1-2 Manchester United
Essential Football: Tottenham absolutely cannot afford to lose this game. A defeat at home to Crystal Palace puts them in real danger of relegation – regardless, we think the Lilywhites will have enough to see off their South London opposition.
The loss of Maxence Lacroix will be immensely damaging to Palace’s chances in this one, following his red card against Manchester United. For all of Spurs’ faults, they do have some decent attacking players – they should be able to exploit the Eagles’ depleted backline.
EF’s Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Crystal Palace
Grok: Spurs’ winless 2026 start adds pressure, but their strong record vs Palace (six wins in eight) could spark a turnaround against an inconsistent mid-table side.
Grok’s prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Crystal Palace
