It has been nothing short of a disastrous campaign for Tottenham Hotspur, who are just one point clear of the bottom three, despite winning their last two Premier League matches on the bounce.
The North Londoners moved out of the relegation zone for the first time in almost a month with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa. This lifted them above West Ham in 17th spot with three games remaining. Tottenham’s fate is now in their hands, and the way they played against Aston Villa last weekend was a clear indication that things have changed for good under Roberto De Zerbi.
If the Lilywhites do stay up, they can start to rebuild their squad in the vision and image of De Zerbi. It looks like the N17 bosses are focused on reinforcing the roster’s defensive unit.
Recent reports suggest Tottenham are planning to up their ante in the pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke. This comes after the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven being linked with an exit from White Hart Lane. Luka Vuskovic is due to return after a successful loan spell with SV Hamburger, but Spurs want to sign a central defender in the summer.
In addition, they are also on the lookout for a full-back. Barcelona are reportedly planning to bid €30 million for Pedro Porro. As such, Tottenham would need to replace Porro if he departs at the end of the season, and the Spaniard may very well be tempted to join Barcelona.
Now, according to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham are one of the Premier League clubs interested in Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento. The Englishman is on his way out of St James’ Park, putting the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City on red alert.
With Newcastle United set to miss out on a place in the Champions League, they are facing a battle to keep hold of Tino Livramento, who has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young full-backs since moving from Southampton in 2023. With his contract expiring in 2028 and no progress on talks of an extension, the Magpies could be forced to cash him in this summer to balance their books.
Due to a series of injury problems, it has been a tough campaign for the England international in Tyneside. Now Tottenham are keen to step up their interest in the full-back, who is ready to take the next step in his career. Livramento’s versatility, comfortable on both flanks, and his technical quality and pace when fit make him an attractive option at right-back, a position Spurs need to address if Porro departs.
However, with Arsenal and Man City also monitoring his situation at Newcastle, it’d be difficult for Spurs to lure Livramento away to N17 without European football.
