Premier League Star Eyes Barcelona Move

After a brief loan spell at Aston Villa this season, Marcus Rashford is eyeing a move to FC Barcelona.

He signed a five year extension with his boyhood club back in 2023, but it hasn’t gone to plan. Early into Ruben Amorim’s tenure, it was clear Rashford wasn’t in his first-team plans, leading to Rashford’s departure in January.

The English attacker responded nicely, finishing with four goals and six assists in 17 appearances with his temporary club. His days playing at Old Trafford might be over, however Rashford’s recent form suggests he’s still a highly useful player and Barcelona is interested.

"We like Luis (Liverpool’s Luis Diaz), we like Rashford, and we like other players," Barcelona’s sporting director Deco said to Catalan radio station RAC 1 recently.

"Out of respect, talking about players who are under contract with other clubs is complicated. When we go to the market, there are names we know that could improve the team."

Rashford is aiming to get things done rather quickly because if not, he will have to report for pre-season in early July. The issue is that United is paying him £350,000 a week under a deal that expires in June 2028, with most clubs expected to be hesitant to match.

Barcelona on the other hand, seem interested. According to SPORT, Deco met with Rashford’s agent on Wednesday morning.

United’s plans are obvious regarding Rashford, with Amorim looking to rebuild his way. The club is ready to listen to offers on most of its players, but loanees Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony are preferred.

The reported price is about £40m for Rashford and the ongoing saga will be fascinating to observe as the La Liga champions look to reload.
