Premier League star Mohamed Salah announces plans to stay with Liverpool next season

Professional footballer Mohamed Salah said this week that he plans to stay with Liverpool next season and will not leave ahead of his contract expiring in June 2023, although it is still unclear whether he will sign an extension with the Premier League club.

"I am just focused on the team and don't want to talk about my contract. But I am staying next season for sure, that's for sure," Salah said, via ESPN, at a news conference preceding Liverpool's UEFA Champions League final match against rival Real Madrid.

"In my mind, I don't focus about the contract at the moment. I don't want to be selfish. I said two months ago, it's all about the team now. It's a really important week for us, so I am just focused on the team. I want to win the Champions League again."

Speculation arose a few months back that the Eqyptian forward could be on the move because he had not yet signed an extension with Liverpool.  Rumors linking him to other European clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and even Madrid arose, but Salah has maintained that he wants to focus on playing instead of being distracted by signing a contract.

The focus this week is getting revenge on Madrid, which defeated Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final 3-1. Salah was injured 30 minutes into that match.

"I'm very motivated," Salah said. "Coming off after 30 minutes the last time [against Madrid] was the worst moment of my career."

Kickoff between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the 2022 UEFA Champions League final is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.
