Premier League takes another step toward resuming season

While Germany's Bundesliga is up and running already, the English Premier League continues to take steps in the right direction for a resumption of the 2020 campaign. According to ESPN's James Olley, all 20 clubs unanimously voted to resume contract training on Wednesday.

People have voiced their concerns over a league restart, but the EPL has reiterated time and time again that games will not begin until it is safe to do so. Similarly, they're putting player, staff and employee safety above all else during this difficult time amid the pandemic.

"Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimizing any unnecessary close contact.

"The Premier League's priority is the health and well-being of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week."

The league will continue to deliberate on a wide range of topics, and they'll meet again Thursday to discuss when they can safely restart, among other things.

While the Premier League was originally aiming for a June 12 start date, that reportedly has been deemed no longer possible as players won't be fully fit by that time. Any date between June 19-26 now seems more likely, according to Olley.

Bundesliga's successful return is likely why the EPL continues to discuss restart dates as a push towards returning to the field continues. Although the United Kingdom remains on lockdown, the government has been fully supportive of the EPL returning amid the pandemic.
