Marco Pellegrino has been out for some time but he is finally close to returning to competitive action and he could play some minutes over the weekend, a report claims.

During the game against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona earlier this season, Milan lost three players due to injury: Pierre Kalulu in the first half, Christian Pulisic at half-time and Pellegrino in the second half.

The Argentine – who joined in the summer from Club Atletico Platense – came on for Kalulu and suffered compound fracture of the calcanea bone of the left foot which would obviously keep him out for some time.

However, MilanNews report that Pellegrino is finally close to returning to the field having trained with the rest of the squad today at Milanello, and the plan is for him to do a rehab stint of sorts.

As a result, the idea is that he will feature on Sunday for the Primavera against Torino. He should play some minutes with Ignazio Abate’s team to get him back up to match fitness, with the aim of rejoining the senior side.

Stefano Pioli is still battling an injury crisis at centre-back until Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori return, but Pellegrino’s appearance with the Primavera should help him recover a more ready option.
