Tottenham-linked Atalanta star Ademola Lookman is set to be subject of Inter Milan’s opening bid

For Tottenham Hotspur to compete on multiple fronts next season, including the Champions League, Daniel Levy must back Thomas Frank wholeheartedly in the summer transfer window. And after a sluggish start to the window, there are signs of the new Spurs boss being backed by Levy.

So far, Thomas Frank has overseen the permanent capture of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, as well as the acquisitions of Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus. Having good depth in all areas of the pitch will only prove to be beneficial in the long-run, which means Spurs need a lot more than just Tel, Takai and Kudus.

After the signing of Kudus, the Lilywhites still appear to be scouring the market for attacking reinforcements. This has been evidenced by their latest interest in signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman amid Son Heung-min’s potential exit.

Ademola Lookman is pushing for a move away from Atalanta this summer. The creative winger helped fire Atalanta to the Europa League title during the 2023/24 season but last term, he had a fallout with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has now left to join AS Roma.

The Nigerian international’s decision to leave Atalanta has put plenty of clubs across Europe on red alert. Therefore, Tottenham would need to act quickly if they want to sign Lookman and not risk the possibility of losing out on him, with a European powerhouse preparing an opening bid.

Ademola Lookman wants to join Inter Milan

According to transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano on X, Lookman wants to join Inter Milan after his agents’ further talks with the club. The attacker has told Atalanta that he wants to leave. Inter Milan will soon submit their opening bid, with the Bergamo-based club insisting on more than €40m for Italian clubs.

Lookman has decided to end his time at Atalanta after three productive campaigns, which yielded 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances. He is keen to move to Inter, who are set for a rebuild under new manager Cristian Chivu.

Big blow for Tottenham?

The African attacker’s desire to join Inter should come as a blow for Tottenham, whose skipper Son Heung-min has been told to find a new club by Frank. Spurs are in desperate need of quality depth in their squad, and if Son departs, the Danish tactician will be in a spot of bother.

This is when the signing of Lookman would have made sense. Off the back of a strong Serie A campaign, the ex-Leicester City and Fulham man would have been raring to make an immediate impact at N17 and prove his detractors wrong in the Premier League. At 27, he is into the peak of his powers and would have been a strong replacement for the ageing Son.

That said, Levy should shift his focus on other alternatives after learning about Lookman’s preference to continue in Serie A.
