Brennan Johnson was one of the standout players for Tottenham this season

One word that describes Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson perfectly is ‘resilience.’ The Wales international was trolled and abused at the start of the season for not making an instant impact in the team. All this scrutiny forced him to go off social media as well and the 24-year-old aimed to focus on his performances on the pitch instead.

It is fair to say that the Spurs winger bounced back in spectacular fashion to silence his critics and doubters. The ex-Nottingham Forest star went on a seven-game scoring streak and made it a personal mission to make the starting spot his own under Ange Postecoglou. It did not stop there as Johnson also started making an impact on the pitch without scoring.

The desire to be the best player was for all to see and the winger instantly became a fan favourite in no time. The North London club did not endure a good domestic campaign under Big Ange, but they somehow managed to end the long-standing trophy drought this season as well. The Lilywhites exceeded all expectations and won the Europa League to end the campaign on a high.

Ben Davies speaks highly of Tottenham teammate Brennan Johnson

What better way to cap off an amazing individual season than by scoring the winning goal in the Europa League final? That is how the fans will remember Brennan Johnson for years to come. The Welshman made history to help Tottenham win European silverware after 41 years this season, and his contributions throughout the campaign were key for Ange’s men to reach to that stage.

Now, Spurs defender Ben Davies has also singled out the 24-year-old and praised his efforts this season. Speaking to the BBC, Davies said,

“Brennan’s shown this year that he’s a top, top player and proven a lot of people wrong. He works hard, he trains hard, we love having him round the place, and I feel like we’ve got the best Brennan we can at the moment.”

Ben Davies was full of praise for Brennan Johnson and insisted that the 24-year-old showed his true potential this season. The Spurs defender also added that Johnson proved a lot of critics wrong by keeping his head down and working hard. Davies suggested that the Spurs winger trains hard and he is enjoying the best football of his career so far.

Fans will now hope that Johnson’s good form continues next season as Spurs will look to build on the Europa League success and close the gap on their rivals. The Lilywhites have the perfect chance to kickstart a new era at N17, and the 24-year-old will surely be an integral part of the project for years to come.

Whatever happens from here on… Johnson will forever be remembered as a Spurs icon for years to come and his match-winning goal in the Europa Legue final will never be forgotten by the fans.
