Sky Sport Germany reports that Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl confirmed the club will do everything possible to secure a contract extension for Upamecano.
The 27-year-old’s deal expires this summer, and he has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that PSG are monitoring Dayot Upamecano. He could move to the club in the summer of 2026 if he decides against extending his Bayern Munich contract, making a free transfer possible.
At the same time, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke says Bayern are quietly negotiating with Upamecano’s representatives to keep him at the Allianz Arena, with no plans to let him join Liverpool. Still, the French defender can start talking to other clubs and sign a pre-contract once January arrives.
“Well, I’m sure they’ll be hoping that maybe they could sign a player of the caliber of Upamecano on a potential free transfer in the summer,” O’Rourke said. “Look, as you said, he’s under contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer and discussions over a new dealer are ongoing between Upamecano’s representatives and Bayern Munich.
“Bayern are hopeful that they can persuade the France international to stay, but he will have a lot of options and there’s no getting away from that. Right now it’s probably an open race for signature as there’ll be so many clubs ready to sign him on a free transfer if a new deal can’t be agreed. But Bayern are doing everything they can to try and persuade the Frenchman to stay.”
Upamecano’s current deal runs until June 2026, and he’s seeking a renewal fee of about €20 million. Cadena SER adds that Real Madrid could convert that fee into a signing bonus, potentially bringing the defender to the club to form a strong trio with Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.
