Although Lazio, where Gila is under contract through June 2027, have reportedly been hit with a transfer ban this window according to the Italian press, Claudio Lotito insists he has no reason to sell the club’s top players.
“We don’t need to sell our best players, nor to buy any others,” Lotito told Il Messaggero newspaper. “If anything, we should whittle down the squad, because having 30 players on our books for one competition is too many,” continued Lotito.
“I was offered €40m for Castellanos, the same for Rovella, Gila and Zaccagni. Then €35m for Tavares, €25m for Isaksen and €15m for Romagnoli. But I don’t want to dismantle the team.”
In April, CaughtOffside reported that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are interested in signing Mario Gila, citing sources close to the situation.
Tottenham could certainly use more depth in defense, especially with Cristian Romero rumored to be on his way out. Real Madrid, meanwhile, still hold a 50 percent resale clause from the deal that sent Gila to Lazio.
