Pundit believes Tottenham manager may have changed his approach in recent games

Ange Postecoglou has turned things around at North London since his arrival, especially after the club finished 8th last season, missing out on all the European spots.

Tottenham are in contention for the fourth spot this season, currently sitting in 5th place with 60 points, just 3 points behind Aston Villa. But, they have a game in hand.

However, the results have not been very consistent for Spurs this season, as they have struggled with their form. They last game ended in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Michael Brown thinks Ange Postecoglou has recently tweaked his style of play

According to the former English footballer and pundit Michael Brown, Postecoglou has recently tweaked his style of play, as the North London outfit does not appear to be playing as attacking football as they were at the beginning of the season.

Brown discussed Ange Postecoglou’s recent tactical adjustments, noting that the manager’s hyper-aggressive approach has been slightly toned down.

While acknowledging the admiration for Postecoglou’s style, the pundit emphasised that ultimately, results will be the measure of success.

He highlighted that if results fail to materialise, there may be questions raised.

Brown wrote in his column for BBC Sport:

“Ange Postecoglou’s style is amazing. But if you start to not get results then we go back to the old thing of the style being ‘too progressive’ now.

“Ultimately it is all about results. The style only comes into play for so long but if you do not get results then the questioning is going to happen. I do not see him changing it, however – he has said that the whole time. At times, he might be able to slow it down and be more compact in some games. That might be one thing he can try.

“But I do think he has already started to change things a little. They are not as gung-ho and they are not flying forwards and leaving it open as much as they have done at times.

“As they now head into the final few games of the season and chase the top-four spot that looks to be needed for a Champions League place, you look at their fixtures and it is going to be very difficult.

“They have the north London derby against Arsenal, they have Liverpool and they have leaders Manchester City coming up – those are two really difficult fixtures in the last six games.

“But they are going to have to start picking up some more results, especially with their away form. As it stands though, they are sat in fifth. Is it exciting for the fans to watch? Is it taking them up off their seats? Yes, it is.”

Postecoglou needs to study his opponents

As Spurs aim for a top-four spot, they face challenging fixtures ahead, including clashes against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Burnley, and Man City consecutively.

Despite the difficult set of games, Postecoglou must approach each fixture based on the opponent’s style of play, which may be something the Australian manager overlooked this season.

Responding to Dier’s claim of him not being the most tactical of managers, the manager admitted that he does not take into account the opposing team while preparing for the games.

These could be the make or break of Tottenham’s season, as they risk missing out on a Champions League spot if they continue to lose points.
