The Milan derby is one of the most fiercely contested club games in the Italian top flight. Inter and AC Milan went head-to-head on Monday night as the men in red ‘surprisingly’ came out on top. The final score read 2-1 as Christian Pulisic and Matteo Gabbia grabbed the goals for the visitors. Several fans on social media expressed their surprise at the result after Inter drew 0-0 to City a few days back.
The rivalry between the two clubs in Milan goes way back. More recently, Inter fans and players asserted their dominance over their rivals when Marcus Thuram covered a Milan corner flag with his jersey after a win last season.
As Milan toppled Inter away from home, it was evident that their players hadn’t forgotten about the same. Leao, Youssouf Fofana and Tammy Abraham were quick to recreate the same as they uprooted an Inter corner flag before covering it up with Fofana’s jersey.

Fans reacted emphatically to the same as neutrals rejoiced about the Milan derby replicating its former levels of rivalry. The game itself was a spectacle for fans as an 89th minute goal handed the Rossoneri all three points.
AC Milan snatched all three points at the San Siro after a nervy encounter culminated in a 2-1 win for the visitors. Many fans favored Inter after the men in blue pulled off an impressive draw against Pep Guardiola‘s men a few days back. The game burst to life in the early minutes, when Christian Pulisic scored a sublime solo effort after picking up the ball in the midfield area. After going 1-0 down in the 10th minute, Inter responded just before the strike of half-time.
Captain Lautaro Martinez set up Federico Dimarco , who did well to beat Mike Maignan from close range. His left-footed shot found the net as the two sides split for the half with the score 1-1. The second was open to either side as both Maignan and Yann Sommer produced brilliant saves up until the 89th minute. Inter’s backline was finally breached when a brilliant cross from Tijjani Reijnders found the head of Matteo Gabbia.

The Italian did well to redirect the ball past Maignan, who stayed rooted to his spot. Following the game, Inter fell to seventh position while Milan are one spot ahead with an equal number of points. Inter are winless in their last three games and take on Udinese before hosting Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League.
