Manchester United have reportedly scheduled a medical visit for Matheus Cunha whose arrival will place another nail in the coffin of Marcus Rashford’s stint at Carrington.

The Red Devils have long agreed terms with the ‘sensational’ Brazilian attacker, but they’re still looking to finalise a deal with Wolverhampton.

United will trigger the 25-year-old release clause in an operation that will cost them £62.5 million spread over three years.

According to the Daily Mail, Cunha will travel to Manchester in the coming days to undergo his medical. Although the deal has yet to reach the finish line, the Reds are apparently confident in their ability to iron out all details in due time and make the transfer official.

Matheus Cunha finalising Man United transfer

The Wolves star would become the club’s first summer signing, while others are expected to follow. The Brazil international is a versatile attacker who can play almost anywhere in the final third.

It is widely believed that Ruben Amorim would like to deploy him as a left attacking midfielder alongside Amad Diallo in his 3-4-2-1 formation, but Cunha also has experience playing as a lone striker, which could come in handy, especially if the club fails to sign an inspiring new striker who proves to be an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund.

Cunha’s arrival provides fresh clue over Rashford’s future

Moreover, the source reveals that the former Atletico Madrid star will be handed the No.10 jersey which was last donned by Rashford.

So it hasn’t been made clear already, Amorim has well and truly closed the door on the 27-year-old’s return to Old Trafford, and handing his squad number to a new arrival is telling enough.

Stats in 24/25 Appearances Goals Assists
Marcus Rashford 41 11 9
Matheus Cunha 36 17 6

Rashford spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, but the club is highly unlikely to exercise its £40 million option to buy him after failing to secure Champions League football.

Hence, the England international bid the Villains farewell in a social media post, and he’ll be hoping to finally seal his dream move to Barcelona this summer.
