Rasmus Hojlund recalls his favourite Manchester United memory so far

Manchester United are preparing for the visit of Arsenal this weekend as Erik ten Hag’s men could have a big say in this season’s title race.

Mikel Arteta’s side could claim top spot in the Premier League with a win at Old Trafford as we head into the final seven days of this season.

A repeat of last year’s Old Trafford fixture between the two sides, when goals from Antony and Marcus Rashford ended the Gunners’ 100% winning start to the 2022/23 season, would almost definitely hand the title to cross-city rivals Manchester City.

Rasmus Hojlund, one of the few success stories from this season, will be hoping to land himself on the scoresheet this weekend and speaking ahead of the game, the Danish international has reflected on some of the memories from his maiden campaign at United.

The former Atalanta star made his very first appearance for the Reds against Arsenal early this season, coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

“Obviously that was against Arsenal as well, and it was a big game. I was coming on and it was a draw,” Hojlund is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

“I hoped I could get on and get a winner, of course. Playing in an amazing away stadium and also getting my debut for Manchester United was very, very special for me.

“I was a little bit nervous and when I saw my name with 11 on the back [in the dressing room], I was very excited. There’s been some great players who’ve played in that shirt.”

The medium-term aftermath of that game was difficult for Hojlund as he struggled to find the net for the first time in the Premier League, despite scoring five goals in the Champions League group stage.

His first strike did, however, come on Boxing Day when he completed a remarkable turnaround against Aston Villa and he has named that goal as his favourite memory.

“My first goal here, against Galatasaray, and then the second after that [in the same game],” he said when quizzed on his favourite memories.

“We were 2-1 up at the time and I scored at the Stretford End. That was very special for me.

“But my favourite is the Villa one [the 3-2 win on Boxing Day]. We won the game, and it was my first Premier League goal.

“It’s a top feeling. Hopefully, there’s many more goals to come.”
