RB Leipzig defender Angelino: Man City manager Guardiola 'killed' his confidence

Earlier this month, Angelino's loan to RB Leipzig was made permanent, which likely comes as a relief for the defender, as he is clearly enjoying his new team much more than his time with Manchester City. Angelino opened up about the differences between the two clubs, saying that Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has encouraged him, while Man City manager Pep Guardiola's tough style of coaching caused him to question his own abilities.

"There is a big difference [between Guardiola and Nagelsmann]: One gave me the confidence and played me, and the other didn't," Angelino told reporters. "[Guardiola] killed me. Confidence is everything for me."

Angelino joined Manchester City in 2019 but the 24-year-old failed to make much of an impact with the club, starting just four Premier League matches during his time with the team. He was eventually loaned to RB Leipzig at the start of 2020, where he has thrived, even helping to put the club in a position to possibly win their first-ever Bundesliga title this season.

The success of the partnership between Angelino and Leipzig caused the temporary loan to become a permanent move, with the club buying the player for a reported 18 million euros and then signing him to a long-term deal which will keep him with Leipzig through 2025.
