Tottenham Hotspur endured their worst-ever campaign in the Premier League, and instead of being proactive in the transfer window, they have been sluggish and are now struggling to get deals done.
Primary attacking target Antoine Semenyo has signed a new deal at Bournemouth, while Arsenal’s entry into the mix has seen Spurs cool their interest in Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. In addition to signing attackers, the North Londoners also want to reinforce their defensive unit.
New boss Thomas Frank has plenty of options at centre-back and is willing to give youngsters Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips a chance in pre-season, but is more limited at left-back. Owing to Sergio Reguilon’s release at the end of June, Destiny Udogie happens to be the only natural left-back option at Frank’s disposal. So, it would make total sense to bring in a new left-back to compete with Destiny Udogie next season, and Fulham star Antonee Robinson has emerged as a target.
However, in a market where Tottenham are eyeing a new left-back, it is none other than Udogie attracting interest two European powerhouses.
According to a report from The Boy Hotspur, Real Madrid and AC Milan are continuing to prioritise the signing of Udogie to fortify their left-back department. However, Spurs have no interest of selling the Italian international and are demanding a €50-60M fee to consider.
New Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso appreciates the 22-year-old defender’s talents. As for AC Milan, there interest in Udogie makes sense as they want to replace the Saudi-bound Theo Hernandez before the 2025/26 campaign begins.
Like almost every Tottenham player, Udogie endured an injury-disrupted past campaign. This had an effect on his performance levels, and for a brief period, the Italian got ousted by Djed Spence in the XI. Nonetheless, he is still very young and has a lot to improve in different facets of the game. Working under an astute tactician in Frank would hugely benefit the Italian talent.
Yet, it comes as a surprise that Spurs are willing to consider offers in the region of €50-60M for Udogie. As big an offer would be that, it makes no point to let go one of the finest young full-back talents in the Premier League. Milan may struggle to meet that reported valuation due to their financial issues, but Real do have cash and remain in the market for an upgrade on the injury-prone Ferland Mendy.
In a market where getting in quality defenders has been a problem, the Lilywhites must not entertain any bids for Udogie and keep him at the club.
