Real Madrid is reportedly considering quitting La Liga and seeking asylum in a different league. However, could this move logistically happen?
As reported by Daily Mail, Real Madrid are considering leaving La Liga as their feud over what they believe to be "biased" refereeing standards seemingly gets worse week by week.
Earlier this month Carlo Ancelotti's men fell 1-0 to Espanyol after an 85th-minute goal from defender Carlos Romero. The goal sparked much debate as many believe Romero should have been sent off for an earlier challenge on Kylian Mbappe.
This incident caused Real Madrid to file an official complaint against the Royal Spanish Football Federation in regard to "serious refereeing behavior."
A section of the letter read:
"What happened at the RCDE Stadium represents the culmination of a completely discredited refereeing system, in which the decisions against Real Madrid have reached a level of manipulation and adulteration of the competition that can no longer be ignored."
Just one week later Real Madrid were the victims of another questionable refereeing decision when Atletico Madrid were rewarded a highly controversial penalty kick. And in their most recent game, Jude Bellingham received a straight red card for what the referee deemed as "offensive language" for shouting profanities in the direction of the official.
With all of these decisions, which Real Madrid believes to be part of a vendetta against them, the club has threatened to quit La Liga to join a different European league.
The report claims that Real Madrid could look to join Serie A, Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga to solve their refereeing issues.
However, any potential league change would first have to be approved by FIFA, UEFA, as well as the league they would ask to join. Getting any approval to join a different league seems all but unlikely for Los Blancos.
