Real Madrid have made a low-ball opening contract offer to Marco Asensio.

Marca says Asensio wants to stay at Real Madrid and the club would like to have the forward. With this desire shared by both parties, it would seem that the renewal of the player, whose contract expires on 30 June, is imminent.

The agreement, however, is currently at a standstill, far from being reached due to the difference in conditions sought by the player, represented by Jorge Mendes, and Real Madrid, who are inflexible in this type of negotiations.

Asensio received a renewal offer a few months ago that he did not accept. Madrid's proposal is around half a million euros less than his current one, when the player was seeking a salary increase that would put him at six million euros net per season. Madrid, for now, believe that their proposal (over 4 million euros net per year) is in line with his performance in recent years and what the player can offer in the future. And they are not budging from there.

Real Madrid want Asensio to stay at the club for the next three seasons, but not at any price. The club thinks he is a top player, but his level has relegated him to the role of a second-tier player in the eyes of the management, losing the status of undisputed starter.
