Real Madrid are reportedly considering another move for Riccardo Calafiori after previously being linked with the Arsenal defender during the summer transfer window. A potential transfer would have reunited the Italian with Jose Mourinho, following their time together at AS Roma, but the move never materialised.

Arsenal were not interested in allowing Calafiori to leave, while the defender himself did not push the club to sanction a transfer. Madrid subsequently turned their attention to Marc Cucurella of Chelsea as they continued exploring ways to strengthen their defensive options.

Calafiori has remained an important figure at the Emirates and continues to demonstrate his quality whenever he takes to the pitch. The Italian has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back and has produced consistently impressive performances over the last few seasons.

Madrid reignite their interest in the Italian

According to Caught Offside, Real Madrid have renewed their interest in signing Calafiori after previously considering a move for him. The Spanish club reportedly regard him as one of the outstanding players in his position and believes he could make a significant contribution to their team.

Mourinho is said to have asked Madrid to pursue the defender as they look to strengthen their squad and challenge Barcelona’s dominance in La Liga. Calafiori’s defensive qualities and ability to contribute in attacking areas make him an appealing option for the Spanish side.

However, convincing Arsenal to sell would be difficult, especially given his importance to Arteta’s plans. The Gunners have little reason to weaken their defence by allowing one of their most dependable players to depart.

Calafiori has a decision to consider

A move to Madrid could appeal to Calafiori because of the club’s reputation and the opportunity to work with Mourinho again. Nevertheless, he is already playing for a major club where he has an important role and can compete for significant honours.

Arsenal’s ambitions could give him everything he wants at club level, meaning a departure is not necessarily essential for his career. For now, Madrid’s renewed interest creates another potential transfer story, but the Gunners are likely to remain determined to keep the Italian in their squad.
