Real Madrid has one of (if not the best) right-backs in the world at the moment in Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard is a potential Ballon d'Or contender after serving as a key player in the Champions League and Euro-winning teams last season. However, Carvajal is now 32 years old and we all know that in sports it does not take long for Father Time to catch up to aging players. Real Madrid must start keeping a keen eye for long-term replacements for the legendary Spaniard.
Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold is a player who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid many times in the past and is the preferred option in the minds of many Real Madrid supporters. Now could be the time — more than ever before — to make a move for Alexander-Arnold, who only has one year remaining on his current contract with his Premier League side. Real Madrid has reportedly made first contact with Alexander-Arnold for a potential move next summer and given the friendship between Trent and Jude Bellingham, maybe a move to Los Blancos is not out of the question for the fantastic fullback.
But what if Alexander-Arnold does not end up joining Real Madrid next summer? Well, in that case, it seems the club has their eyes set on another right-back from one of the Premier League's top clubs. CaughtOffSides' Jason Pettigrove is reporting that Real Madrid has Tottenham fullback Pedro Porro on their list of potential future right-backs should a move for Alexander-Arnold not materialize.
Real Madrid has a great record when it comes to signing players from Tottenham Hotspur, too. Players like Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have made the switch and have gone on to have careers filled with records and success at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid had their eagle-like scouting eyes on Porro all the way back to his time at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. After proving himself for one of the top teams in the Premier League, he may have earned himself a move to the biggest club in the world.
At the end of the day it remains to be seen who exactly is Real Madrid's number one recruit for a long term right-back, but going off of Real Madrid's transfer record, the club always looks to sign the best player in the world at their position at any given time.
