One of the biggest storylines of the massive Champions League clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid was always going to be the reception that Trent Alexander-Arnold received upon his return to Anfield.
It was a night to forget for Alexander-Arnold and his Real Madrid teammates. Liverpool won 1-0 on Alexis Mac Allister’s 61st-minute goal.
Alexander-Arnold received boos during pre-match warm-ups and when he entered the match. Liverpool supporters gave him a frosty reception during warm-ups. It was only a taste of what would come when he entered the match as a substitute.

When the former Liverpool favorite replaced Arda Guler in the 81st minute, the boos were even louder. With every touch of the ball, Alexander-Arnold was followed by jeers from the Anfield faithful.

His wayward cross in the 95th minute was mocked by The Kop.
Once a massively popular figure on Merseyside, some Liverpool supporters haven’t forgiven Alexander-Arnold for his summer exit.
The England international right back joined Real Madrid for €10 million after he wound down his contract to essentially leave Liverpool on a free transfer. A deal was struck between the clubs that allowed Alexander-Arnold to leave in time to join Real Madrid ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Alexander-Arnold made 354 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. The 27-year-old twice won the Premier League title, lifted the Champions League trophy once, was a one-time FA Cup winner and captured the EFL Cup once in nine seasons at Anfield.
