The saga involving Rafael Leao and his departure from Sporting in 2018 is set to continue with new cases being heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

As reported by Portuguese newspaper Record (via Pianeta Milan), CAS in Lausanne, Switzerland, made two rulings yesterday for each appeal presented by the Portuguese club Sporting in the case.

They still believe that they should receive the full €45m release clause that was in Leao’s contract when he terminated his contract after violence at the training ground by fans.

There is no sign that Sporting are going to wave the white flag and back down, which means that there is still no real end in sight to this saga that involves French club Lille, as they are the ones who signed Leao for free.

It seemed that the matter was resolved when Lille paid Sporting €19.7m, but the Portuguese club is still seeking the full amount through legal avenues.

It was this situation that caused Leao’s contract extension with Milan to drag on for so long last season. The good news is that these new rulings at CAS are not relevant to Milan.

The Rossoneri are no longer involved in the case, it is just between Lille and Sporting.
