Red Bulls fire head coach Chris Armas after two seasons

The New York Red Bulls are making a coaching change. They announced Friday that they fired head coach Chris Armas after two seasons.

Armas was appointed as New York's head coach in July 2018 and led the Red Bulls to a Supporters' Shield the same year. The club was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs and lost in the first stage a year later.

The Red Bulls, who sit seventh in the Eastern Conference with 11 points in nine games, are expected to name an interim head coach in the coming days. New York's next game is against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, so they'll possibly name a new interim coach by that point.

Whoever becomes the next head coach will be tasked with getting the club to the level it was competing at a few years ago, which won't be easy.
