Tottenham are looking to act swiftly in the transfer market and bring in a few quality players for the remainder of the campaign. The Lilywhites have already strengthened their squad by signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on a long-term deal. The England international has joined the club as he looks to make his mark in the Premier League and reclaim his spot in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
The North Londoners are now hoping to add further attacking reinforcements in the coming weeks as Thomas Frank attempts to turn the club’s fortunes around. Spurs’ attacking unit needs attention after the club decided to part ways with Brennan Johnson earlier this month. With Mohammed Kudus also set to be sidelined through injury for the next two months, the Lilywhites must inject some creative flair into the squad during the winter window.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski’s long-term injuries have not helped Thomas Frank’s cause either. The lack of creativity in the side is a major concern heading into the second half of the campaign as Spurs push for European qualification. With the club currently sitting 14th in the table, it is important to invest in players who can make an immediate impact for the Lilywhites this season.
Tottenham are keen to bring in attacking reinforcements for the second half of the campaign. As a result, the Lilywhites have reignited their interest in AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche after missing out on his signature in the summer. A recent report suggests that the North Londoners are considering landing him as part of their broader transfer strategy, should Thomas Frank be sacked and a new manager come in.
George Sessions has now tipped Spurs to land Akliouche in the winter for the right price as they look to bolster their attack for the second half of the campaign. Speaking on the Market Madness podcast (via Give Me Sport), Sessions said,
“He feels like, if Spurs are going to sign anyone this month, that they’re probably going to be looking at someone like that. [Akliouche] is a really good player, but he’s not going to be €70million. I think his price is going more close to €50million (£43.3million), which is generally where Spurs are doing their business – even though there has been a change and Daniel Levy has left.”
The journalist added,
“I don’t think you’re going to see Spurs spending £70-80million just yet, especially not in January. But I feel like if they’re going to sign anyone this window, and they’re going to be a wide player, it’s probably going to be Maghnes Akliouche.”
Sessions claims that Maghnes Akliouche is firmly on Spurs’ radar and that they are capable of signing the player below his asking price in the winter. The journalist believes the Lilywhites could land the Frenchman for around £43m, as they would not look to overpay for anyone’s services during the January window. Sessions also reports that the North Londoners are keen to strengthen the wide areas and have identified Akliouche as an ideal candidate.
All eyes will now be on Tottenham as they look to lure the Frenchman to the Premier League in the coming weeks. He would instantly slot into the starting eleven at N17, thanks to his ability to operate from anywhere across the frontline. He has predominantly played on the right-flank for AS Monaco over the last two seasons. However, due to his versatility, the talented attacker can also operate as a left-winger or as an additional No.10.
The 23-year-old would immediately replace Mohammed Kudus in the starting eleven for the second half of the campaign, adding creativity and technical quality to the side. He excels in tight spaces and would bring much-needed energy to a team that has struggled to excite the Spurs faithful in recent weeks. Signing him for £43m should be a no-brainer, given his immense talent and high ceiling.
