Simon Evans of Reuters reported on Tuesday that ALK Capital LLC, an American sports investment company, is in advanced talks to purchase Premier League outfit Burnley.
ALK Capital would assume majority ownership of the club and also be involved with day-to-day operations, per Reuters.
Alan Pace, former chief executive of Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake, heads ALK Capital and has a background in the financial world. He previously served as Citi's global head of securities services sales, per Joe Parsons of The Trade, and as head of international prime brokerage at Lehman Brothers.
Pace and current RSL owner Dave Checketts attempted to buy Sheffield United last year but were unsuccessful, as noted by David Conn of The Guardian. Reuters reports Checketts is advising ALK Capital in its pursuit of Burnley but isn't directly involved.
Burnley punched above their weight during the 2019-20 season drastically altered by the coronavirus pandemic and finished 10th in the Premier League table, ironically level on points with the previously mentioned Sheffield United (54). The Clarets were only five points off of a potential European position.
