While the 2022 FIFA World Cup is ongoing, Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Campos is still working to improve the squad ahead of the January transfer window.

One reported target that the Portuguese club chief has his eyes on is Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan. The 32-year-old’s contract expires in June and Sport reports that the Premier League side is open to letting the Germany international exit.

The Spanish media outlet also adds that PSG faces a challenge from Barcelona as the two clubs could be set to rival each other and land Gündogan.

If the reporting is accurate, this would be the second time in three summer transfer windows that the Catalan side and French giants square off for a free agent Premier League midfielder.

Both clubs were in on Georginio Wijnaldum, who was leaving Liverpool on a free transfer in 2021. It was the capital club that signed the veteran midfielder. However, the signing didn’t work out as planned, and after a year, Wijnaldum is on a loan deal at AS Roma.
