Hakan Calhanoglu is expected at Inter pre-season training on Wednesday, but his agent arrived in Istanbul this evening for meetings with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
The midfielder’s situation remains up in the air, as while the Nerazzurri continue to insist he has never asked to walk away from his contract, the speculation drags on.
There was a new development tonight when Turkish transfer expert Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reported that Calhanoglu had been joined in Istanbul by his agent, Gordon Stipic-Wipfler.
It is believed they will have a series of meetings in Istanbul with local clubs and then leave together for a return to Italy, where the player can begin pre-season training with Inter.
President Beppe Marotta confirmed today that they were expecting the Turkey international on Wednesday for his medical tests, having been given extra time off after an injury during the FIFA Club World Cup.
Now it remains to be seen if Galatasaray or Fenerbahce will be willing to put in a genuinely convincing offer, or if as Marotta put it, the proposals will continue to be “imaginary” and played out entirely in the media.
