Footmercato claim that Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi has asked to be released from his contract with Olympique Marseille after their Champions League elimination.
The Ligue 1 side crashed out of the tournament following a shock 3-0 defeat to Club Brugge in the final round of the league phase.
There were reports swirling around this afternoon that Olympique Marseille were considering his position and potentially ready to pull the plug on his tenure.
The big surprise from Footmercato this evening is the suggestion De Zerbi himself asked the club to let him go, as he feels the rapport with them cannot continue.
The 46-year-old Italian tactician has overseen 17 wins, two draws and 11 defeats in all competition with Marseille so far this season.
He was appointed in the summer of 2024, after experiences at Foggia, Palermo, Benevento, Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton and Hove Albion.
If he was to leave Marseille, it could potentially open the door for a return to Serie A or the Premier League.
