Report – Dutch Center-Back Could Start Wednesday’s Champions League Clash Between Ajax & Inter Milan

Stefan de Vrij is reportedly in contention for the starting line-up ahead of Wednesday’s clash between Ajax and Inter Milan.

According to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, the Dutch star could make the starting XI in Inter’s opening Champions League outing.

Francesco Acerbi had the upper hand over the 33-year-old in Saturday’s Serie A blockbuster between Juventus and Inter.

Despite faring outstandingly in Turin, the Italian veteran can no longer keep up with the grueling schedule.

At 37, Acerbi needs rest after such an exhausting game, which could open space for De Vrij.

New Inter Milan boss Cristian Chivu has yet to hand De Vrij his first minutes in Serie A this season.

Indeed, the former Lazio center-back was an unused substitute in each of Inter’s three league matches so far.

However, De Vrij could make his debut under Chivu in the Champions League.

Seeking redemption for a 4-3 defeat at Juventus, Inter will head to Amsterdam to meet Ajax on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, De Vrij could join forces with Manuel Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni at the back.
