Atletico Madrid want to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, but the deal will be difficult after Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League win.

However, the North London outfit are now looking to spoil their plans. According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have already been in contact with the Argentine international regarding a summer move. They are hoping to secure the services of the 27-year-old central defender, but Tottenham are now hoping to hold onto him.

Change of plans at Spurs

Spurs have won the UEFA Europa League, and they have secured Champions League qualification for the next season. They are determined to keep their best players now. It remains to be seen whether the trophy win and Champions League qualification are enough to convince Romero to stay at Tottenham.

According to the report, Tottenham are prepared to spoil the plans of the Spanish club. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. If they can keep Romero at the club, it would be a huge boost for them ahead of the next season.

Initially, there were rumours that the player had already approved a move to the Spanish club.

Tottenham must keep Cristian Romero

Romero is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the league, and he produced a man-of-the-match performance in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United. Romero is undoubtedly an indispensable asset for Tottenham. They should do everything in their power to keep him at the club during his peak years.

The 27-year-old defender wants to compete at a high level and fight for trophies. Tottenham will be able to provide him with that platform next season. It would not be surprising if he decided to continue in English football with them.

For Atletico Madrid, this will certainly be a major blow, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the defender to join them.
