Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso plans to build his squad around Inter Milan stalwarts Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Federico Dimarco.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the former AC Milan midfielder could add three more Nerazzurri stars to his Azzurri team.

Gattuso visited Inter’s pre-season training camp at Appiano Gentile this morning.

Indeed, he wanted to observe several Inter players firsthand heading into September’s international break.

In addition to the established internationals, Gattuso hoped to catch a glimpse of three more Inter talents.

Gennaro Gattuso Aims to Build Italy Squad Around Barella, Bastoni & Dimarco

Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Federico Dimarco have been the core members of Italy’s national team for years.

Furthermore, Gattuso sees them as the cornerstone of his team as he prepares for his touchline debut in September.

However, the 47-year-old is keeping close tabs on Matteo Darmian, Davide Frattesi, and Francesco Pio Esposito.

Despite being in the autumn of his playing career, Darmian could still be an option for the national team.

Meanwhile, Frattesi thrived for the Azzurri despite his struggles under former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

Finally, many expect Pio Esposito to make his senior debut soon.

As for Francesco Acerbi, his return to the national team looks unlikely.
