The pairing that would figuratively set the footballing world on fire may remain only a thing of fantasies and versions of "FIFA" video games.
Earlier in the day, a report surfaced that Paris Saint-Germain superstar striker Kylian Mbappe could soon request a transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid. Mbappe is out of contract following the current season and hasn't yet committed his future to his current employer, and Paris Saint-Germain may decide that selling him during the summer transfer window that closes at the end of the month may be better than losing him for nothing next year.
Similar stories have said Paris Saint-Germain could potentially replace Mbappe with none other than Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo to pair CR7 with on-the-pitch rival Lionel Messi, who joined PSG on a free transfer last week. However, ESPN personality and football insider Julien Laurens poured cold water over both reports on Monday:
Cristiano Ronaldo is not an option for PSG this summer. And the club doesn’t want to sell Kylian Mbappé either this summer.

As things stand today, Messi is set to make his Paris Saint-Germain debut Aug. 29 at Stade de Reims, and it's widely believed the club thinks its best chance of winning the UEFA Champions League next spring involves Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar featuring in the attack at the same time.
All would have to admit, though, that Messi and Ronaldo playing together for even two seasons would make for can't-miss television all over the planet.
