It’s been a very impressive summer from Chelsea so far, with the Blues upgrading in a number of positions and making some big sales already.
Their work isn’t over however, and one of the biggest remaining holes in the team is at left back, where a backup to Marc Cucurella is needed. It seems like we’re pretty close to getting a deal done there too, however.
Jorrel Hato is a name we’ve seen mentioned since January, but it’s only now that we’re really seeing concrete connections with the Ajax defender. The big names in the transfer game have been speaking about incoming bids for a few days now, and it seems like significant progress has been made.
A price is almost agreed between the clubs, and on the player side things are already done, if you believe the latest report from TeamTalk.
They say that Chelsea “have reached an agreement on personal terms” with the defender, meaning just the fee needs to be agreed to make this one happen.
The same report says that agreement over a fee isn’t far off either. Chelsea value the Dutch international at €40m and Ajax want €50m. It’s pretty obvious what needs to happen to get a deal over the line.
Hato was left out of the squad for Ajax’s recent friendly with Como as the final details of his deal were sorted out. TeamTalk say that the Blues are “increasingly confident that a deal for Hato will be completed soon,” and it does seem very much like a matter of when, not if.
That would then take us another step closer to a very impressive summer all round.
