However, any hopes of landing the Frenchman might be facing a setback. Foot Mercato reports that Real Madrid and Upamecano have reached a verbal agreement, putting the Spanish club in the lead to secure the defender.

The 27-year-old will become a free agent this summer if he does not extend his contract with Bayern.

This news comes after Sky Sport Germany reported that Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl confirmed the club will do everything possible to secure a contract extension for Upamecano.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the defender has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Furthermore, Upamecano is reportedly seeking a renewal fee of about €20 million. Cadena SER adds that Real Madrid could convert that fee into a signing bonus, potentially bringing the defender to the club to form a strong trio with Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.
