Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, and they have an option to make the move permanent for a fee of around €60 million.
Tottenham are unwilling to pay that kind of money for him after his mediocre performances during the second half of the season. According to a report from Sport BILD via SportWitness, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to sign the player permanently in the summer, but he could look to negotiate a more reasonable price.
The report further states that Bayern Munich would be willing to lower their demands to get rid of the French attacker. The report claims that Tel is valued at around €40 million (£34m) right now. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay that kind of money for him.
The young attacker is highly rated across Europe, and former Tottenham striker Harry Kane has heaped praise on him in the past. There is no doubt that the 20-year-old could develop into a player for Tottenham with the right guidance. Even though he has struggled in English football so far, he might be able to adapt better next season. If he manages to regain his form and confidence, he could be an excellent option for the club in the long term.
Tottenham need more depth and quality on the flanks, and the 20-year-old is versatile enough to operate on either side of the attack. He could slot in the striker as well. He will look to establish himself as an important player for Tottenham in the coming months if the transfer goes through.
He does not have a future at the German club, and he needs to leave them permanently. Tel will look to sort out his long-term future and focus on his football soon.
